Page If this post contains any code, I may or may not have tested it.I have a gridview with template field on column 2 and 4. i've also used msgbox to output all column four's control ID and it's returning nothing. Is there any way to get controls of the edit template? Here's my source code: " Select Command="SELECT tb_entity. that's why i don't know how to go about it.

find control in edititemtemplate in rowupdating event-25find control in edititemtemplate in rowupdating event-16find control in edititemtemplate in rowupdating event-84

I thought that might be the case when I noticed (breakpoints and tracing) that the Grid View did not yet have an edit row set.

I'm giving examples, not typing up your whole app for you.

Using Template Fields in the Grid View Control eclipsed4utoo was on the right track, as far as how to get to the controls. But since the controls are buried in a Template Field, you cannot just do a find control on the Row.

It will not find it, you need to be more specific than that.

I am a little confused as to why you are programmatically querying and updating data when you are obviously using an Sql Data Source.

Why not just let the Sql Data Source handle the update?

Replace("'", "''") & "'" Else SQL = SQL & " OR tb_entity.entry='" & strline.

Replace("'", "''") & "'" End If End If Also if i use that, then upon loading of the page, it executes the SELECT command w/c gets all the data from the sql db. user either input strings or upload a text file with strings to parse. page would read the strings from either text box or text file then do a SELECT FROM from the sql db what i would like is upon loading, it wouldn't query the sql db.

If it doesn't have basic error checking in it, such as object detection or checking if objects are null before using them, put that in there.
