Clearly, something in Mac prevents what's happening with Windows/or, inversely, something in Windows is causing it to happen.

Thanks again for offers of help, and, again, my apology for not posting my activities sooner.

It gets so bad on my PCs that it freezes everything on the computer and I have to walk away until it unfreezes, then I go to online access for my email accounts...which I don't like. I've used Thunderbird probably for as long as it's existed and I have never found another email client that I like better or even as well. This started a couple years ago and I thought it was my computer (desktop PC). I wondered if the problem happened after an update, but was unable to target the exact date to try to link it to an update. And it really freezes your PC, not just Thunderbird? Please start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - - win8 - win7 Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - Does problem go away? If I'm patient (not my long suit) it will eventually respond. Most of the time when that happens, I can't even close the window or close TB through Task Manager. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird: Testing: Antivirus_Related_Performance_Issues documents that Trend Micro has been an issue in the past.

Over the next day or so I will see if it continues and post here with the results. TB is working without a hitch..it does on my MAC." How do we know it's Trend? I will check in with Trend though..if they've any known conflicts with Thunderbird on PCs. I'm very grateful for the input and being pointed in the right direction!

I'll pass on anything that may help anyone else. I spent a "bit" of time with Trend Micro Support over a couple days. I spent a "bit" of time with Trend Micro Support over a couple days.

The "not really" part is because they are totally different operating systems/platforms.

I had returned the pack to the store and they are dealing with the fake packs as well they gave me a refund, so I uninstalled it and will NEVER use it again or recommend it to anyone.

VERY suspicious, it's possible the whole company (Trend Micro) has been compromised by either disgruntled ex-employees or employees who are moonlighting for extra cash.I then told him about my experience and he didn't seem overly concerned at all.I had to really emphasize the fact that I purchased this pack from a very large, well known chain and it was obviously a scam.Totally up to you of course, but if Trend Micro is otherwise working fine, you needn't ditch it.By manually adding the exclusion, you are only doing what Trend Micro should itself be doing automatically, and you are not putting your computer at risk. I emphasized again that he needed to tell the manager or something. I kept getting emails from Trend Micro, I'm not sure why but they were driving me crazy with them.
